Forging Bonds: Kentucky Blacksmiths and their Mentors

Forging Bonds will highlight the works of a group of Kentucky blacksmiths and their mentors revealing both the similarities and differences in style and craftsmanship that have occurred from their shared experience. The inclusion of both sculptural forms and functional furniture pieces will exemplify the versatility of the medium. Supplemental materials included in the exhibition will show the design process that goes into creating the work, as well as the techniques and processes that are involved in the art of ornamental blacksmithing.
Artists and mentors included are Erika Strecker of Lexington, KY and Rick Smith of Murphysboro, IL; Tony Higdon of Lexington, KY and Thomas Gipe of Edwardsville, IL; Lewis Meyer of Louisville, KY and Steve Yusko of St. Louis, MO; Lloyd Hughes of Lexington, KY and Bill Valerius of Park Ridge, IL; Danny Downs of Louisville, KY and Craig Kaviar of Louisville, KY.
