Position Overview

Reporting to the President and CEO and in partnership with the Director of Major Gifts and Director of Communications, the Development Manager is responsible for the annual Fund for the Arts Campaign, grant writing and tracking, fundraising for LexArts initiatives, and fundraising events. The Development Manager oversees accurate record keeping and the generation of useful and accurate reports used by the CEO and Board Members.  The Development Manager works closely with the Communications Director on fundraising communications.

About LexArts

LexArts is a non-profit organization that works for the development of a strong and vibrant arts community as a means of enhancing the quality of life in Central Kentucky.  As the local arts council, LexArts provides a wide range of programs designed to integrate the arts into our daily lives, including the LexArts HOP, Arts Showcase Weekend, public art projects and more, and also offers affordable exhibition and performance space for eligible organizations.  As the united arts fund of Central Kentucky, LexArts has raised millions of dollars in support of local arts through its annual Fund for the Arts Campaign.  With these funds LexArts provides general operating support for six of beneficiary organizations and offers competitive grants for community arts development programs and projects.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual and corporate donors (Fund for the Arts Campaign) including workplace giving campaigns, direct mail, phone solicitation, digital channels, and personal solicitation
  • Secure financial support for LexArts’ initiatives from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Manage the implementation of donor management software and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • In collaboration with senior staff, identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors to special initiatives and programs
  • Organize special events that support annual giving and general awareness of LexArts
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation, corporate, and government grants
  • Supply accurate and timely donor information to staff, board, and development volunteers
  • Cultivate loyal and dependable volunteer corps to work on Campaign and events
  • Co-supervise and direct work of Development and Administrative Assistant; supervise interns and volunteers

Required Work/Life Experience and Skills

  • History of working in nonprofit organizations; arts organization experience preferred
  • One to three years fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in grant writing
  • Familiarity with donor management software
  • Experience in special event planning and execution
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent computer/Office technology skills
