DOWNTOWN ARTS CENTER

Downtown Arts Center 141 E. Main Street
Lexington, KY 40507
859.225.0370

On March 1, 2002 the Embry-Lowenthal Building was reopened as the newly renovated Downtown Arts Center. The Main Street Arts Center is owned by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and managed by LexArts (formerly the Lexington Arts & Cultural Council). The Downtown Arts Center subleases office space and is available for per-use rental by LexArts Member Groups, non-profit organizations, and private groups and individuals.

The Downtown Arts Center is home to 3 distinct organizations:

  • LexArts
  • The Ann Tower Gallery
  • Actors' Guild of Lexington

The first floor of the Downtown Arts Center houses the Black Box Theatre, Alfalfa's Restaurant, and the lower level of the Ann Tower Gallery. The theater is a 250-seat contemporary "Black Box" theater with flexible seating. This theater is equipped with state of the art lighting and sound capabilities. Users of the theater are also provided with access to two dressing rooms, a green room, a backstage area, and loading dock.

The second floor of the facility includes a Meeting Room, Rehearsal Room, and the facility's administrative offices. The Meeting Room, a unique "U" shaped room, is available for board and lunch meetings as well as lectures. The Rehearsal Room is primarily used for rehearsals in conjunction with the Performance Theater. It doubles as an alternative performance space. The second level of the Ann Tower Gallery is also housed on this floor.

If you are interested in renting any of the spaces described above, please call Trip Rogers, Manager of Rentals and Facilities, at (859) 225-0370 or by e-mail at trogers@lexarts.org
