Central Kentucky Concert Band at the Opera House

CKCB will channel our “blues” over lost time in performing the music we had intended to play in May 2020 with a concert featuring George Gershwin’s beloved Rhapsody in Blue. Our soloist for the Rhapsody will be the brilliant pianist Dr. Greg Partain, Professor of Music at Transylvania University. We’ll round out the program with other pieces that refer in various ways to the color blue with music by Leroy Anderson, Ralph Hultgren, John Philip Sousa, Frank Ticheli and others.

Please join us at the Lexington Opera House on Sunday, May 1 at 3:00 P.M.. Admission, as always, is free.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lexington Opera House is one of the premiere performing arts centers in the region. Originally constructed in 1886 after a fire had destroyed the original theatre located on the corner of Main and Broadway, the “new” Opera House, designed by Oscar Cobb, opened its doors on July 19, 1887. The distinctly 19th-century ambiance is one of the most charming features of the restored theatre. With less than 1,000 seats, the venue currently serves an average of 85,000 patrons annually and remains a premier cultural destination in downtown Lexington. The facility is owned and managed by Lexington Center Corporation.
