Lexington Youth Arts Council- Play in One Day
We’ve brought back the Lexington Youth Arts Council in partnership with Fayette County Public Schools Fine Arts Department! This event was created by LYAC members as a way to increase arts accessibility in Lexington.
Play in One Day is an accessible, inclusive theater project designed to engage approximately 50 K–8 students in a full-day, collaborative arts experience. Hosted at LexArts, the program guides participants through the creation and performance of a one-act play in a single day.
Students are divided into two groups: one focused on performance, where participants are paired with high school–aged thespians who serve as mentors and co-performers; and another centered on design, where students collaborate to create props and set pieces specifically for same-day production. The program introduces young participants to theater and visual design in a supportive, hands-on environment, encouraging creativity, teamwork, and early arts engagement while fostering long-term interest in the arts.
