The AIDS Memorial Quilt Display

From November 19th to December 1st, The Lyric Theatre and Bluegrass Black Pride present panels from the National AIDS Memorial Quilt. The Quilt was created nearly 35 years ago during the darkest days of the AIDS pandemic to honor the thousands of lives that had been lost to AIDS, and to thereby help people understand the devastating impact of the disease. In 1989, the Quilt was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its global impact. Today, the Quilt‘s 50,000 panels are displayed throughout the year in communities across the country.

The gallery is open weekdays (monday-Friday) from noon to 5 PM by appointment only. All visitors must wear a face mask per LFUCG guidelines. Appointments to see the Quilt can be made at lexingtonlyric.com

The Quilt will be on display for November 19th’s Art Hop from 5-8 PM. It will also be included for Celebration of Life: World AIDS Day 2021 on Wednesday December 1st from 4-8 PM. This free event will feature musical performances and free confidential HIV testing in addition to the Quilt display.
