Limitless

Gabriela Lena Frank – Three Latin American Dances
Samuel Barber – Violin Concerto
Simone Porter, violin
Aaron Copland – Symphony No. 3

In the first full-orchestra performance of the season led by new LexPhil Music Director Mélisse Brunet, LexPhil takes the stage at the Singletary Center for the Arts in a program celebrating the unbounded potential in all of us with Limitless. The evening opens with Gabriela Lena Frank’s Three Latin American Dances, inspired by the many musical traditions born of diverse Latin American cultures. Violinist Simone Porter returns as guest artist for the lyrical Barber Violin Concerto. Closing the program is Aaron Copland’s expansive Symphony No. 3, with its famous quotation of his Fanfare for the Common Man, exhibiting his abstract voice and accessible beauty to create a score that is, in his words, “a serious statement.”
