The Beginning Knot

On March 15, stop by the Carnegie Center for LexArts Gallery Hop! Our SkyDome Gallery will feature The Beginning Knot by LaNora F. Long. LaNora’s artist talk will commence at 6:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served. All featured pieces will be for sale for the duration of the show. The event is FREE and open to the public.

The Beginning Knot is a macramé exhibition representative of historic Arabic traditions. Long often incorporates found objects within her environment into traditional tapestry, finding inspiration from these additions as well as from “the first knot.”

Born and raised in Harlan, LaNora F. Long is a proud coal miner’s daughter and a long time contributor to the Lexington Arts Education community. Long received her undergraduate degree from an HBCU, Alabama A and M University, in Huntsville, Alabama and a graduate degree in Fine Arts from Georgetown College. LaNora taught art for more than 35 years, teaching within the adult education center as well as Fayette County Schools. Her creative spirit has provided mentorship and inspired generations of students to embrace the arts and to express themselves freely. After retiring, she joined On the Move Art Studio, a nonprofit that visits underserved communities and provides art lessons.

On April 17, LaNora will be leading a children’s macrame workshop for the Carnegie Center’s Family Fun and Learning Night, teaching children to create expressive tapestries of their own using recycled materials.
